Spongy Moth (Lymantria dispar dispar) – formerly known as gypsy moth – is a forest pest responsible for causing significant tree mortality and defoliation across the state.

The best way to protect against these pests is via aerial spraying. The DCNR Bureau of Forestry annually treats heavily infested state forest lands, and encourages all landowners to set up their own private spray program.
